Our history
Created in 1824, Braquenié was acquired by Pierre Frey in 1991. Renowned for its printed cottons, silks and hand-woven rugs, this distinguished brand boasts many historical treasures, including textile documents dating back several centuries, carpet samples and watercolor drawings. These carefully preserved documents reveal a fascinating world in which expertise and elegance are a guarantee of taste. Braquenié has thus over time attracted and retained the loyalty of a demanding clientele in search of beauty.

With the entire upper class of the 19th century filling the paneled gallery located at Rue Vivienne in pursuit of the most exquisite creations, Braquenié thus became the “haute-couture” house of interior design. The railway carriages of Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie were lined from floor to ceiling in its creations. The wealthiest men in the world, who hailed from literacy, artistic, aristocratic and financial circles alike, desired Braquenié for their lavish residences. Its order books resembled international directories that extended far beyond French borders. They contained names such as Victor Hugo, members of the Rothschild family, Frédéric Chopin, the widow Clicquot-Ponsardin, Tsar Nicolas II, Prince Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy, and many others from all the courts of Europe.

As the house’s prosperity grew, it enlisted the services of popular artists to create its designs. Braquenié therefore stands out in the history of interior design due to the richness and variety of its creations.

The influence of the decorative arts, the wealth of its archives and the contributions of artists such as Jean Lurçat (1892-1966) have enabled Braquenié to capture the interest of its contemporaries throughout the ages.
