PIERRE FREY X BERNARDAUD

The BRAQUENIE COLLECTION service is the result of a unique collaboration, the story of a meeting between textile and porcelain, between materials and colors, between two French companies, Pierre Frey and Bernardaud. Bernardaud has adapted two famous motifs from the collections of the fabric publisher Pierre Frey on porcelain, creating a unique design from an exceptional archive.

Adorned with large flowers on tree-like stems and wild animals, the BRAQUENIE COLLECTION service evokes palempores, richly decorated fabrics that were very popular in the 18th century and were generally used as bed covers or wall hangings. Made in India, they were shipped to the West among other goods as luxurious and rare as they were exotic: silks, spices, precious stones or even Chinese porcelain, whose recipe remained a mystery to Europeans until the discovery of the essential ingredient, kaolin, a few kilometers from Limoges in 1768.

Through its motifs and inspirations, the BRAQUENIE COLLECTION service refers to the fascinating history of fabrics and porcelain that the Pierre Frey and Bernardaud companies continue to write today...

The emblematic fabric of Braquenié, a furniture textile house founded in 1823, the Grand Corail print created in the 19th century is still produced today. It is found here on a complete porcelain service that is distinguished by the richness of its decoration, the finesse of its patterns and its magnificent color palette. The fully decorated presentation plate features a detailed flower whose mesmerizing stripes seem to move under the light. On the four dinner plates, majestic imaginary flowers adorn the scalloped edges with a fine gold border and a white and black frieze, contrasting with the bright petals. A pattern of delicate plant arabesques, called vermiculated, adorns the cabaret and dessert plates. In the center of the latter, wild animals from the La Ménagerie fabric are represented in grisaille and transport us to the heart of the royal menageries of the 19th century.

The BRAQUENIE COLLECTION was born of a shared desire by Pierre Frey and Bernardaud to combine their expertise and celebrate the art of living. The two companies, members of the Colbert Committee, have a special relationship and are pleased, with this first collaboration, to highlight their shared family business culture and the values they hold dear: heritage, transmission and French excellence.

Pierre Frey & Braquenié

Pierre Frey is a family story, the story of a passion passed down through three generations. Founded in 1935, the company creates, publishes and manufactures fabrics, wallpapers and rugs in the purest French tradition. This collection of 7,000 references brings together Pierre Frey's creations with those of five other prestigious brands: Braquenié, Fadini Borghi, Boussac, Le Manach and more recently, Thorp of London.

Founded in 1823, Braquenié is famous for its printed cottons, silks and hand-woven rugs. This illustrious representative of 18th century French refinement holds many historical treasures: antique textiles, carpet samples and watercolor drawings. The preciously preserved documents reveal a fascinating world where know-how and elegance are the hallmarks of taste. Braquenié became the "grand couturier" of interior decoration. The Frey family acquired the company in 1991, perpetuating the original spirit through shared values: tradition, know-how and excellence.

Bernardaud

Bernardaud, a French porcelain manufacturer created in 1863 in Limoges and still family-owned today, has always chosen excellence, quality and precision. In a field that is constantly changing, at the forefront of design and innovation, the company develops technologies and know-how that constantly push back the limits of the arts of fire, creating ever more complex pieces in the heart of its workshops in Limoges. For 160 years, this desire to take porcelain to unexpected and unexplored territories has enabled the company to collaborate with the greatest chefs, artists, designers and prestigious luxury houses. Each collection, each piece of jewelry, each object signed Bernardaud dresses the everyday with a simple luxury... proof that porcelain remains an exception.
