Custom-made furniture

THE PIERRE FREY ART OF LIVING

Aware of the stringent requirements and complexity of custom-made orders and contracts, Pierre Frey is committed to guaranteeing the best know-how and controlling all project development phases through the required service level.

Production workshop, expertise and specialists

Having acquired one of France’s oldest furniture manufacturing plants (1928), located in Villers-Cotterêts in the north of France, Pierre Frey boasts a team of genuine experts. For its staffing requirements—from site manager to designers, woodworkers, couturiers and upholsterers—the House recruits skilled craftsmen from trade guilds, as well as graduates from prominent schools of art and design.

Projects

Taking account of theparameters defined by the architects, interior designers and product designers, the Custom Department can successfully meet the demands all types of projects. Creation of unique pieces or customization existing models, Pierre Frey’s trade expertise makes it possible to adapt the level of comfort and other finishes according to the characteristics of each project and the effects sought.

The decoration of exceptional places—such as certain palaces, châteaux, private villas or hotel suites—often requires a search for precious woods, special finishes or hues, and complex processes. For ultra-comfort, individual springs and down cushions may be proposed. A selection of luxury fabrics can be presented for upholstering, as well as intricate finishing touches.

RESIDENTIAL PREMISES
The design of the furniture for Contract must meet certain technical specifications or comply with specific standards depending on the location, intended use and desired atmosphere, as well as the staff available to maintain the aesthetic aspect of the cushions, and the project's budget. Traditional comfort may be required in a hotel lounge. In a restaurant or an entrance hall, more firmness and resilience may be called for.

CONTRACT PROJECTS
The patios and gardens of private homes or hotels/restaurants require sturdy furniture which is weatherproof and resistant to light, chlorinated water and saltwater. Beyond the comfort of the cushions—which can vary as desired from very firm to very soft—specific exotic woods must be recommended for the structures, along with mold-resistant stuffing and certified high-performance textiles.

OUTDOOR FURNITURE

Personalization

Whether through a unique creation or the adaptation of furniture from the collection, there are several ways of customizing your room (choice of seating comfort, type of wood used, wood color and finish, and upholstering fabric)

COMFORT
The specifically-designed seat suspension system provides suppleness and firmness. While the most comfortable option consists of the traditional hand-mounted springs, several other alternatives are available. Furniture padding and cushions provide softness and well-being. They can vary as desired, from goose feathers to down, cotton wadding or high-density foams.
WOOD
For its collection, Pierre Frey mainly uses beechwood. For custom work, the workshop also offers other woods such as oak, ash, walnut, mahogany, rosewood, teak, and other exotic woods. Depending on the type of wood chosen, the wood can be tinted, lacquered, patinated, sanded, cerused, varnished or oiled.

A heritage of decorative arts

Patrick Frey’s grandfather René Prou—an interior decorator of the inter-war period—designed numerous pieces of furniture in classic and bold styles. His drawings are carefully preserved in the House’s archives. These documents provide a rich source or elegant and timeless inspiration.

Creating a tailored project

Choosing a design

Based on a sketch or by consulting one of our 2,000 archived drawings, the project managers and designers are able to advise you and guide you.

The brief

A dedicated staff member will go over your ideas with you, define the context and provide advice. This experienced person works in tandem with a technical expert in the workshop, oversees the development of the project, and adapts the production of the furniture to the project constraints. They ensure that budget imperatives and the set deadlines are complied with.

Drawing, model and plans

Free-hand sketches and 3D simulations are provided by our integrated design office to give you a better idea of the volume, proportions and aesthetics of the item. This makes it possible to validate the first stage of the project and move on to the technical plans, and then templates.

Prototyping

This is the ultimate control and monitoring stage in the development of the item. It can be validated by the client at a meeting in our workshop (50 minutes from Paris) or through the sending of technical photos taken in our integrated photo studio.

Manufacturing

Once the prototype has been validated, the production of the item can be launched and move on to the various manufacturing stages: woodwork, assembly, mounting, finish work, sewing, upholstering.

Delivery and installation

The furniture goes through a quality control stage before its delivery or shipping. On request, a logistics service is proposed (transport and installation). Pierre Frey can also refer the client to a network of partner installers.
