On the occasion of the launch of the Djo-Bourgeois collection inspired by the Maison's heritage collection, Pierre Frey invites you to discover a new virtual exhibition:

Djo-Bourgeois / one name, two artists!
From September 17 to December 17, 2022

A MYTHICAL NAME

Djo-Bourgeois ! A mythical name for fans of the modernist movement that hides in fact a couple of artists with complementary talents: Georges Bourgeois, known as Djo-Bourgeois, architect and designer known to the dazzling career, and Elise, his wife, textile designer.

Like many artists of the time, they created as a duo after their marriage in 1925. The first worked on space and imagined furniture that the second dressed.

The rediscovery in the archives of the Maison Pierre Frey of a set of original drawings and printed fabrics from the 1920s, signed by Elise Djo-Bourgeois, now makes it possible to give color to her creations, which were previously known through a few black and white photos. In addition, this collection testifies to the quality of her work on the simultaneous contrast of colors, a field of experimentation for a whole group of artists of prodigious fame.

A taste for the decorative arts still relevant almost a century later.

Maison Pierre Frey celebrates the original talent of this duo by launching a complete range of fabrics, wallpapers, rugs and furniture, some of which are previewed in the exhibition. The boldness, structure and timelessness characteristic of the work of Élise and Djo-Bougeois highlight the contours of a French taste for the decorative arts of the modern period, still relevant almost a century later.
