For the first time, we have designed a motif of shells embroidered on a linen plain weave to evoke the necklaces made and worn by Aboriginal people. The necklace denotes the status of the wearer and can also play a protective role. In Australia, accounts of this type of necklace go back 5,000 years. Pearls, shells and bone are the raw materials used for these objects.
