Portor
Created by Mathias Kiss. A continuation of his research on folding and the deformation of stiff materials, this collaboration with Pierre Frey was initiated by "Wallpaper" magazine and echoes the artist's personal work by associating one of his painted marbles to wallpaper. He designed and painted the marble using oil paint, a technique he learned during his apprenticeship with the Compagnons. The motif symbolizes the origin of marble, the quarry, the raw stone, the material... and its application in furnishings.

Mathias Kiss

Mathias Kiss

At the crossroads of painting, sculpture and architecture, Mathias Kiss's art combines traditional and contemporary techniques.  After training with the Compagnons du Devoir, where he worked as a glazier painter on historical monuments, the Hungarian-born artist participated in numerous projects such as the Louvre, the Comédie Française and the Opéra Garnier. With this learning, he perfected his style and found his first inspirations. Mathias Kiss then decided to break free from the barriers between genres to create works that confuse and decompartmentalize. His sculptures and installations emancipate themselves from their function to compose their own style. He plays with paradoxes by trying to erase the boundaries between art and crafts, in line with trends such as the Arts & Crafts movement or the Bauhaus School.
