This is a reflection on the fold and deformation of rigid materials, using a combination of craftsmanship and contemporary experimentation. Mathias Kiss drew and painted the marble patterns using an oil painting technique he learned as an apprentice Compagnons, the French guild of craftsmen and artisans that dates back to the Middle Ages. Printed on a soft and shiny support, it emphasizes all the subtleties of the artist's painting.

Mathias Kiss

At the crossroads of painting, sculpture and architecture, Mathias Kiss's art combines traditional and contemporary techniques. After training with the Compagnons du Devoir, where he worked as a glazier painter on historical monuments, the Hungarian-born artist participated in numerous projects such as the Louvre, the Comédie Française and the Opéra Garnier. With this learning, he perfected his style and found his first inspirations. Mathias Kiss then decided to break free from the barriers between genres to create works that confuse and decompartmentalize. His sculptures and installations emancipate themselves from their function to compose their own style. He plays with paradoxes by trying to erase the boundaries between art and crafts, in line with trends such as the Arts & Crafts movement or the Bauhaus School.
