LA COULEUR DE NOS REVES BY JC de CASTELBAJAC

For Fall 2025, Maison Pierre Frey unveils an exceptional collaboration with Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.

Entitled La Couleur de Nos Rêves, The Color of Our Dreams, this exclusive collection explores the intersections of art, textiles, storytelling, and emotion. Twenty years after their first meeting, Patrick Frey and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac reunite to craft a world of boundless creativity, generosity, and imagination—a two-voice conversation woven from craftsmanship, daring vision, and poetry.

CREATE WITHOUT LIMITS.WEAVE DREAMS. INVENT A TOTAL ART FORM.

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Patrick Frey come together in a bold collection where emotion, color, and craftsmanship converge.

CREATIVE REUNION AFTER 20 YEARS

“Creating this collection, La Couleur de nos Rêves, for Pierre Frey was an exciting exercise. I imagined it as an immersion in my world, made up of colours, poetry, rhythm and dreamlike images. Each of my creations tells a story. They open doors to the imaginary world and transform the décor into an artistic installation.

Through the different themes, I recount my dreams and leaf through the poems born of my subconscious. My drawings embrace my collages; my primary colours welcome the new Pastelbajacs.

Pierre Frey’s virtuoso craftsmanship embraces the fruit of my imagination. This vibrant, poetic, and joyful collection speaks to us of reinvented traditions and reimagined craftsmanship: a celebration of our collaboration.”

FROM FLAT SURFACES TO SCULPTURAL DIMENSIONS

While the duo’s previous collaboration focused on prints, this new collection explores relief and volume—embroidery, three-dimensional rugs, and structured weaves transform the artist’s work into tactile, living objects. For Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, this collection also marks the introduction of three new artistic elements: pink, pure white monochrome, and cut-outs.

PINK: A TURNING POINT IN THE ARTIST’S WORK

Delicate and luminous, pink represents a profound evolution in de Castelbajac’s creative journey. Inspired by the birth of his daughter, he ventures beyond his signature primary palette to embrace this soft, tender hue. Pink graces a reimagined Toile de Jouy and features in the embroidered anagram LOVE/VOLE, a playful nod to the artist’s beloved wordplay.

THE POWER OF THE MONOCHROME LINE

Breaking gently with the codes of de Castelbajac’s style and under his watchful eye, the Pierre Frey design studio took the bold step of eliminating color from one of the collection’s rugs.
This monochromatic choice heightens the power of the line and the intensity of textures, transforming the piece into a textile sculpture where line and relief alone remain.

DISCOVERING A NEW ARTISTIC GESTURE: CUT-OUTS

For the first time, the left-handed artist discovered his right hand could also participate in his creative process—exploring the art of cut-outs. This new gesture liberates the drawing from the confines of line work, allowing shapes and colors to interplay freely in a subtle dance of volume, shadow, and light.

The Pierre Frey design studio elevates these cut-outs through refined embroidery techniques. Each stitch highlights the richness of the materials and the remarkable vibrancy of the colors, also revealing the artisan’s hand that imparts a unique energy to each fabric or wallpaper.

A CREATIVE SYNERGY

From the dynamic exchange between Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and the Pierre Frey teams emerged a collection that is as bold as it is moving. For Patrick Frey and his team, this creative dialogue—rooted in mutual respect for each other’s art and craftsmanship—proved to be an exhilarating journey.
