MEMOIRES COLOREES CREATED BY ISABELLE DE BORCHGRAVE

An internationally acclaimed Belgian artist, Isabelle de Borchgrave devoted her life to exploring the dialogue between painting, volume, texture, and illusion. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, she quickly distinguished herself through a singular vision: that of a virtuoso colorist
who approaches paper as others might approach fabric or stone.

A VERSATILE ARTIST

Renowned worldwide for her hand-painted paper sculptures, she transforms this humble, fragile material into a medium of breathtaking creativity. Renaissance gowns, Ottoman imperial coats, costumes inspired by the Ballets Russes: under her brush, paper becomes silk, velvet, or brocade, revealing a trompe-l’oeil artistry of extraordinary mastery. Her work questions the boundaries between appearance and substance, reality and illusion, history and reinvention.

UNIQUE EXPERTISE

Far beyond costume, Isabelle de Borchgrave has always maintained a dialogue with the world of interior decoration: color as emotional language, material as living memory, and light as a revealer of texture. Each work is a celebration of gesture, craftsmanship, and artisanal beauty.

A CELEBRATION OF ELEGANCE, FREEDOM AND COLOUR

In 2023, Isabelle embarked on a collaborative project with Patrick Frey, the creation of the collection “Mémoires colorées”, a sensitive interpretation of her artistic universe translated into the realms of textiles, wallcoverings, and rugs reflect this shared passion for craftsmanship and materials that tell stories.

THE POETRY OF PAPER MEETS THE EXCELLENCE OF MATERIALS

More than 3,500 of the artist’s drawings were carefully explored to extract fragments of a unique universe, combining genius, vibrancy and spontaneity.

This collection embodies the beauty of shared gestures, passionate exchanges, visits to each other’s workshops and a joyful energy.
