Nuit et Jour

A few years ago, we had the opportunity to admire Gauguin’s work “ D’où venons-nous? Que sommes-nous? Où allons-nous ? » (Where do we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?) at the Boston Arts Museum. In the moment it resonated deeply with us, but over time as daily life took over, it receded to distant memory.  The meanderings of creation are curious.  A few months ago, this painting came to mind again, with its concept of passage, from life to void, from darkness to light.

The collection “Nuit & Jour” introduces this concept in the restrained palette of black and natural in order to accentuate the idea of duality and alteration. This contemporary collection presents a sophisticated play of materials, variations of light and shadow, making it resolutely geometric.
