This motif evokes lively energy, colourful carefreeness and a celebration of joy. For the artist, it tells a story of transmission: that of textiles that have travelled along the Silk Road through time. The kaftans, made from magnificent ikats lined with printed fabrics, offered the opportunity to present oneself in the best possible light. Paper, Isabelle’s signature medium, reappears in this wallcovering as a vertical thread-by-thread texture — a distant echo of the partially dyed warp threads of ikats, subtly recalling her work on pleats.
