The universe unfolds as a series of memories — fragments of urban scenes, markets, colorful façades, beaches. Forms, inspired by abstract expressionism and the graphic freedom of the 1950s, emerge with spontaneity and vitality.

To develop the collection, the Pierre Frey studio begins by creating moodboards—visual boards of inspiration gradually enriched through the studio’s iconographic research. These moodboards bring together ideas for patterns, compositions and colour palettes, inviting us to immerse ourselves in the carefree spirit of the holiday season.
The next stage brings together the work on the designs and their colourways, a crucial step for a summer-inspired theme in which the evocative power of colour takes centre stage. In the SOLSTICE collection, each rug design is available in two colour palettes. Each one captures a distinct moment of the holiday experience: the first is saturated and full of energy, balancing bright sunlight with the coolness of water. It evokes the lively hours spent swimming, playing and enjoying outdoor activities. The second draws inspiration from the distinctive light of late afternoon, when everything seems to come together in a soft, enveloping glow, with delicate shades of pink, grey and gold.
The FRANK rug draws inspiration from the modernist architecture of seaside resorts and urban structures, particularly the diversity of their forms, which the Pierre Frey studio has reinterpreted as its own playful construction set within the design.
For this rug, the studio began with a free exploration of form and expression, before working directly with vibrant, fresh colours to immediately evoke a playful world. Once the initial composition had been drawn, FRANK was developed like a harmonious collage, carefully balancing shapes, solid areas and negative space. The design was created using a mixed technique combining tufting and woven construction. This technique creates beautiful variations in texture and volume, accentuating the interplay of lines and the structure of the design. FRANK is an expressive and distinctive piece that reflects both the exceptional craftsmanship of our workshops and the creative boldness of Maison Pierre Frey.
