Genesis of a new collaboration between L'Atelier Buffile and Maison Pierre Frey
It is during one of the stages of the roadtrip in Provence that Patrick Frey introduces his team to the ceramics workshop of his friend, Vincent Buffile, jewel of the Aixois artisanal know-how. Here in the wonders of the workshop are the unique pieces from Vincent's collections, the multicolored dishes of his wife Monique, and the very modern decorative objects of their son Romain are displayed. Molds, studies, brushes, colors, the work of other artists, pots, dishes, cover the smallest space of the workshop.

While visiting the workshop, Vincent Buffile brought to Studio Pierre Frey some of the original drawings created by Jean Buffile in the 50's, relics of the fire that devastated the workshop in 2015. Seduced by these drawings with their timeless graphics, Patrick Frey imagined the adaptation of these original works in fabrics, wallpapers and carpets. 2021 marks the beginning of a new collaboration through these miraculously rescued archives.
The history repeats itself and Patrick Frey and Vincent Buffile decide to collaborate again. In 2012, for the first time, they reinterpreted each other's creations in an offering of fabrics, wallpapers and a collection of ceramics. In 2014, though a collaboration with Louise Bourgoin, Maison Pierre Frey and Atelier Buffile workshop collaborated once more with Louise Bourgoin working in residence in the ceramist's studio to draw a series of nude women, which were then reproduced on decorative ceramics, fabrics, wallpaper and carpets.
This time, the entire Pierre Frey Studio orchestrates the graphic reinterpretation and the declination of the motifs on their different supports. The fabrics, wallpapers and carpets created are part of the JOIE DE VIVRE, ETERNEL ETE and SOLEIL D'ETE collections. As for Vincent Buffile and his son, Romain, they re-edit their grandfather's drawings on dishes or plates that they draw with an ink brush or freehand with colored oxide chalk.
