Like those large scarves that you drape over your shoulders and that bring a black and white dress to life. The beginning of a great story in costume design. A dozen colorless dresses. One day, Isabelle de Borchgrave placed this colorful paper shawl on a mannequin, and the whole story of Frida Kahlo began. Now, it is also a beautiful piece of traditional Wilton weaving, made in France in Aubusson.

Isabelle De Borchgrave

Isabelle De Borchgrave

An internationally acclaimed Belgian artist, Isabelle de Borchgrave devoted her life to exploring the dialogue between painting, volume, texture, and illusion. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, she quickly distinguished herself through a singular vision: that of a virtuoso colorist who approaches paper as others might approach fabric or stone. Renowned worldwide for her hand-painted paper sculptures, she transforms this humble, fragile material into a medium of breathtaking creativity. Renaissance gowns, Ottoman imperial coats, costumes inspired by the Ballets Russes: under her brush, paper becomes silk, velvet, or brocade, revealing a trompe-l’oeil artistry of extraordinary mastery. Her work questions the boundaries between appearance and substance, reality and illusion, history and reinvention.

Memoires Colorees

When the poetry of paper meets the excellence of materials, a vibrant collection of elegance, colour and connection emerges. MÉMOIRES COLORÉES was born out of a deep friendship between Patrick Frey and Isabelle de Borchgrave, a collaboration built on trust and mutual admiration.
